[US] Subaru crosstrek 2026 premium vs Toyota Corolla Cross XLE?

In short, I have a ford ecosport that I'd like to unload ASAP bc I just found out the replacement engine can also fail. I spoke to two dealerships who are willing to offer a $6.5k trade-in credit for it and I have written docs for that. As such, I'll be test driving both with my dad this upcoming weekend. My upper end is $35k, I need 4 doors and 4 seats, primarily an office/grocer commute vehicle

My criteria:

  1. no engine recalls recently

  2. if there's a major recall later, the manufacturer and the dealer won't dick me around like Ford

  3. heated seats (I have anemia, this is the one add on I'm willing to splurge for)

  4. good communication from the manufacturer about any defects bc I only found out about the ford engine recall from local news, despite buying from a ford dealer

  5. good visibility for a 5'2 driver, can raise the seat

Anyways, Subaru is cheaper and I do like it for the most part but that all screen dash is unnerving me. Bc if their software quality control is bad, there goes the HVAC control. Toyota is having some kind of gas tank and gas gauge defect on corolla cross 2026 that hasn't escalated to a recall and I'm not into overpaying for bullshit. But I do like the actual buttons for HVAC.
