Frequencies

In the latest episode, it seems Manousos is definitely scanning frequencies with another intent besides finding survivors. He was contacted by someone who he thought enough of to note her name, but made no follow up attempt to contact directly via phone? Maybe he just didn't want to contact anyone using anything that could be monitored by the hive, but it doesn't make sense that he would hear from her, and disregard to search more empty air for random survivors. He's fixating on a specific frequency with a repeating pattern.

What if the hive connection does have latency, and can't connect people at long ranges seamlessly? What if it requires a signal repeater which was created or commandeered by the hive in the month before they were discovered. It would be interesting if isolated areas could be created where infected wouldn't be able to tap into the collective consciousness. It would also give another reason why the hive was curious as to why Carol would want an atomic bomb. It would be interesting if they were less concerned about her killing mass amounts of people as much as they didn't want any communication nodes disrupted or key infrastructure destroyed.
