A night out drinking had led to a fog of memories the morning after. I woke up in my car, staring at a grassy hill in the windshield, hands on the steering wheel, sitting in a ditch. A mixture of smoke, steam and the morning mist was filling the cabin of the car as I pushed open the door. It was stuck but nothing the brute force of a kick couldn’t fix, I was able to climb out of the car which was un-drivable at this point.

I rubbed my head as I sat just above my car on the grassy hill. I tried to figure out if my head hurt from the accident or just the hangover, I came to the conclusion that it was probably a mixture of both. I tried to stretch my next but it was tender as I reached in to my back pocket for my phone, it wasn’t there. “Perfect.” I grumbled as I slid down the hill to see if it was in the wreckage somewhere. After being unable to find the phone after a half hour of looking, I gave up.

I was about to start heading down the desolate country road in to town to get a tow truck to rescue my vehicle but as I climbed out of the ditch an ambulance stopped right in front of me. “Better late than never, I suppose,” I chuckled to myself as a woman jumped out of the passenger seat.

She walked in my direction and helped me out of the ditch. “Are you alright sir?” She asked, getting me to sit down. I nodded, hoping she didn’t smell the booze on my shirt.

“Excuse me?” I responded with a raised eyebrow.

“I asked if you were alright sir.” She repeated herself. My eyes narrowed.

Hey everyone, this prompt has been bouncing around in my head for a while now and I wasn’t sure how I wanted it to work. I’d love to figure it out with you. But the premise is that after a traumatic event a man is able to hear the inner thoughts of who he is interacting with. We can pick up from this moment but it really was just a jumping off point so we could go somewhere else with it.
