HP Omen16 inbuilt webcam missing from Windows

I have an HP Omen 16 laptop. My internal webcam worked fine yesterday, but today it completely disappeared from Windows.

Instead of showing up under Cameras or Imaging Devices, it shows under Universal Serial Bus controllers as:

Symptoms:

• No webcam entry at all
• Windows shows “Descriptor Request Failed” device
• Device Location shows all zeros except FFFF
• BIOS CMOS 502 reset happened
• EC reset done
• USB resets did nothing
• Reinstalling drivers did nothing

Windows clearly detects power on the internal USB bus, but the webcam is not returning any descriptors.

From what I've researched, HP Omen webcams use a ribbon cable that often gets loose at the top bezel or in the hinge. It might also be a dead webcam module.

Can anyone confirm if this is usually a loose cable or a failed webcam module on Omen laptops?
Should I open the screen bezel and reseat the cable, or is it safer to take it to a repair shop?
