First 100Miler, Progression...

I’m planning to run the 100-Mile Wilderness this summer, unsupported, in a single push. The full route I’m targeting is roughly 106 miles with about 21,000 feet of climbing ending at Roaring Brook.

Right now I run 30–40 miles a week when I’m traveling on the road, and 40–50 miles a week when I’m home and can run trails. Last summer I ran 42 miles with 13,000 feet of gain through Baxter and over Katahdin, which at the time was a huge jump because my previous longest run was only 20 miles. That day felt incredible. Then I ended up with giardia from eating with wet hands after filling my flasks, and three weeks later I ran the Pemi Loop without knowing I was sick. That one wasn’t pretty, but I still got it done.

All of that was off only 10 weeks of training, starting from a 6-mile max, and three of those weeks I couldn’t even run because of a calf injury.

This time I’m planning a full 16-week build. My current long runs top out around 18 miles because winter limits what I can do in the mountains. Last time, I used ChatGPT to learn everything from gear to fueling to hydration and to build the whole progression, and it worked. So I started that process again. The only part I’m questioning is stacking a 30-mile week and a 50-mile week back-to-back. Then again, I bounced back in about four days after Katahdin last summer, so maybe it’s fine.

What do you think.

Please don't scold me for using AI. I don't do races, I have no friends, and dont know anyone who runs. I just do this for me and the rest of my time is for wife and kids.
