Roster strategies
Does anyone have over arching strategies to guide your roster management.
I'll start with some of mine.
-
If i have an an 80 in the minors, but only putting up 50 or 60 points, I will try to over develop them until they hit 80 or 90 points to try to strategically heist the calder trophy.

I've stopped signing draft picks until they are about to become free agents. This has had mixed success. Sometimes they are signed at 20 and a 79 overall, and by the time the entry level contract is up they are more expensive then they would have been. However, this allows me to have more players simultaneously developing in the minors and in the starter leagues.

I've noticed that high performing OFD in the minors have a high chance of getting the calder as a defensemen if you plop them on the second line. Its reasonable to get 35 to 45 assist as a rookie with plus minus 25 and secure it.

Signing old elites (36-38) with 1 year cap hits and placing them on the fourth line. Its always good to have a fourth liner getting 60 points.
Things I struggle with. Developing strong 3rd line centers who will nab me thirty goals. I get them from time to time, but I struggle to identify them early. Also, sometimes I will have a fourth line with high defensive awareness, and they still will have a shitty plus minus.
