First rifle set up for PRS, looking for advice

Rifle help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts

Hey guys,

I'm a newly licenced Australian shooter looking to pick up a first rifle for PRS and range time. I've got no interest in hunting.

My local range goes out to 800m, so that's the maximum distance I'd be shooting to at the moment, however I'd be keen to make sure my set up has the bones to shoot further should I desire to in future at one of the regional long ranges.

While I've got no experience in PRS (or bolt guns in general) I've got 9 years of time in the army under my belt and have done plenty of AR shooting in that time, although never past 600m.

At this stage I am tossing up between whether I want to go easy on the cash and potentially need to upgrade later and go with this pre-packaged Howa 1500 bundle in 6.5 Creedmoor:

I've heard good things about the Howa action and it seems like a decent package deal, although I'm a bit sceptical of the optic, from what I've read it looks very much on the cheaper end.

My other inclination and what I'm leaning towards is a Tikka T3X ace target in 6.5 creedmoor, with the glass being either:

Or

If I go with the Tikka i'd be spending about twice as much, but would probably be wearing the hurt early to save myself an upgrade in the long term. I'd welcome any input on ring mounts or bipods. Thanks for the advice!
