[Recommendation request] Looking to get into watches and need some advice on a beginner model

I recently purchased a Rolex Explorer II for my father's retirement gift... and in the process researching i've become very interested in nice watches. I have never really been someone to wear a watch, but i'd like to try it out and get something entry level. I've been looking at Hamilton's recently. Does anyone have and recs on brands to look at? Is Hamilton a quality company? i live in NYC so if anyone has a good shop they like i'll go check it out... Thanks in advance!
