Need advice: Ward office refusing to register my baby’s birth because wife (Indian citizen) needs marriage certificate
I’m currently in Nepal and have a 3-month-old baby. Yesterday I went to the ward office to register his birth, but the secretary denied the application saying that we need to submit a marriage certificate first.
The issue is that my wife is Indian, and for her to get the required documents for a marriage certificate, she has to travel back to India and complete some paperwork there. This will delay the birth registration by quite a bit.
I urgently need the baby’s birth certificate because my US employer requires it for processing my paternity leave.
Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? What are my options here? Is there any workaround, temporary document, or alternative process that the ward office accepts in cases involving foreign spouses?
Any advice or experience would be really helpful. Thanks!
