Does this eventually have a negative impact on your life?

I’m not a JW (and will not be). A friend of mine just became one, conveniently after meeting her new bf. Apparently her mom’s one, but I didn’t know that. Theologically I disagree with the whole thing, I’m wondering if the scary stuff I see about the movement is somewhat true?
