My (26F) boyfriend (28M) didn’t like my favorite movie, is it okay to be sad/angry about it, and how could I have reacted better?

I showed my BF one of my all time favorite movies, Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Afterwards, he immediately said “I didn’t like it. I don’t like non-linear storytelling and cartoonish fight scenes.” I got kind of quiet and teary because it hurt my feelings/stung to hear. I had been excited to get his thoughts about the philosophy of the movie and nihilism/absurdism so it felt like that just shut down the conversation and ruined my excitement.

We talked about it for a few minutes and laughed about the whole situation being kind of silly. But I do wonder, in the future when he doesn’t like something that I really enjoy, how can I react better? How can I not just be tearful and sad about it?

It’s just one of those things where someone being negative about something I’m excited about feels like throwing a wet blanket on it and ruins the vibes for me. But I also want my bf and others in my life to be open and honest with me so it’s hard to know how to handle.
