Asking my mother permission to ask her hand in marriage? Anyone else not have a father figure and have done this?

I grew up without a father figure, so my mom was the one who taught me everything about love, respect, and choosing the right people to keep close.

I met someone I never thought I’d have a chance with — the kind of person who makes you feel lucky just to know them. I want to ask her to marry me, but I’ve been nervous in a way I can’t really explain.

Before I ask her, I wanted to talk to my mom first. Not for permission exactly, just… her blessing. I even ended up writing a song to get the words out, because saying it straight was too hard.

Has anyone ever done something like that? Seeking a parent’s guidance before taking the biggest step of your life?
