Question
Hi,my name is Shiloh, and this is might sound stupid but when I was much younger I was told by my mother that I had a cherokee ancestor when I was young. It inspired me to learn a good part of the Cherokee language,to learn much of the history,I went to cultural sites. I wanted to know more, practice the culture, and join the community. I sought information on enrollment today and I was told hours ago that I was living with a lie.It turns out my grandma was a cheating skank and that side I would’ve had that ancestor on is of no connection to me.I was drawn to the Acceptance of people like me(trans and gay) that my other family members lacked(mental and physical abuse not good) and now that I was much older I had the freedom to choose and this is what happened when I looked into it.I’ve already shed my tears for a what I thought was a shattered chance at joining a community not built on burning people alive for being different as well as living the way people should live on Turtle Island but I want to know if I can still learn and live with the traditions even if that means never practicing them?
