Final 83rd Golden Globes Predictions (with my Reasoning)
Hey everyone! Since noms are in less than 12 hours, I thought why not make one last prediction post for the Globes.

- 5 noms
- Hamnet

- The Secret Agent
- 4 noms

- 3 noms
- Bugonia
- Frankenstein

- No Other Choice
- The Testament of Ann Lee
- 2 noms
- K-Pop Demon Hunters

Films I Predict Will Get Multiple Wins
- 3 wins
- One Battle After Another
- Sinners
- 2 wins
- Hamnet
Best Picture - Drama
- Hamnet
- It Was Just an Accident
- The Secret Agent
- Sinners
- Sentimental Value
- Frankenstein
Alternates: Train Dreams, Sorry Baby, Avatar: Fire and Ash
Justification: Me being so high on The Secret Agent here I think will raise a lot of questions, so I would like to explain why:
- It's one of the most awarded films of the season so far, picking up really significant recognition, such as:
- Being both a Best Director and Best Actor winner at Cannes while also winning FIPRESCI out of the films from Cannes this year
- Has won at least one award almost festival/critics group it's been a part of. In cases the movie didn't win something, it at least received a runner-up position at several.
- Reviews somehow have improved since its release, despite them already being positive upon the premiere, which is very rare, even for the best received films.
- One of the highest rated films of the year alongside OBBA and It Was Just an Accident.
- Neon has been pushing all 5 of their biggest contenders this year pretty well in a way we haven't seen do with their past slate.
- Many critics serving on the Globes' voting board really loved The Secret Agent and rated it as one of their best of the year.
In terms of my other rankings, I feel confident about the top 5 I listed being nominated. I didn't know what to do with the last slot, so I made it Frankenstein as I do expect it to do the best this awards season out of Netflix's slate, so if that's the case, I feel like it would be strange for the film to miss here. That said, stranger things have happened, and the Globes have a history of doing some wildly unexpected decisions (e.g. 2 films last year got nominated in Best Picture - Drama and nothing else) so maybe we will see some major shocks here.
Best Picture - Comedy or Musical
- One Battle After Another
- Marty Supreme
- Bugonia
- Jay Kelly
- No Other Choice
- The Testament of Ann Lee
Alternates: Wicked: For Good, Blue Moon, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, If I Had Legs I'd KIck You
Justification: I feel confident about predicting OBAA, Marty, Bugonia, and Jay Kelly, but I'm not sure what to do with the last two slots. I did end up going with No Other Choice and The Testament of Ann Lee just because Wicked seems to be getting weaker as the season's going on, and The Testament of Ann Lee has backing from Searchlight, who are a strong campaigner. That said, I would not be shocked if Wicked replaces one of them, and Blue Moon, If I Had Legs I'd Kick You, or Wake Up Dead Man surprising would make sense as well given they have good reviews and are eligible in this category. If Sorry, Baby wasn't going Drama like other reports have said, I think I'd swap out either NOC or Ann Lee for Sorry, Baby, though.
Best Director
- Paul Thomas Anderson (One Battle After Another)
- Chloé Zhao (Hamnet)
- Kleber Mendonça Filho (The Secret Agent)
- Jafar Panahi (It Was Just an Accident)
- Ryan Coogler (Sinners)
- Joachim Trier (Sentimental Value)
Alternates: Josh Sadfie (Marty Supreme), Mona Fastvold (The Testament of Ann Lee), Yorgos Lanthimos (Bugonia), Oliver Laxe (Sirāt)
Justification: My reasoning for my list here is very similar to my justification for Best Picture - Drama, I just feel very confident about The Secret Agent at the moment! However, I would not be surprised if we see some surprises here as the Globes loves to make some surprise decisions with this category. It would not shock me if we see Fastvold or Laxe show up here as their directing style matches the new Globes's past taste in the Directing category these past few years.
Best Actress - Drama
- Jessie Buckley (Hamnet)
- Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value)
- Tessa Thompson (Hedda)
- Jennifer Lawrence (Die, My Love)
- Jodie Foster (A Private Life)
- Eva Victor (Sorry, Baby)
Alternates: Julia Roberts (After the Hunt), Laura Dern (Is This Thing On?), June Squibb (Eleanor the Great)
Justification: Jodie Foster does extremely well with the Globes, so I feel semi-confident predicting she'll get nominated here. I considered putting in Julia Roberts as a prediction, but After the Hunt has not been doing well at all since the movie released, which is why I decided to predict Eva Victor instead. I do feel like Sorry, Baby will get a nom somewhere at the Globes, and if it's not Picture or Screenplay, I feel like Victor being nominated here would make sense. The only shaky part of my theory is that I don't believe they have been nominated for their performance yet at many places, they have mostly been recognized for the screenplay, so I could be very wrong here.
Best Actress - Musical or Comedy
- Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I'd Kick You)
- Cynthia Erivo (Wicked: For Good)
- Amanda Seyfried (The Testament of Ann Lee)
- Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another)
- Emma Stone (Bugonia)
- Olivia Coleman (The Roses)
Alternate: Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Pamela Anderson (The Naked Gun), Dakota Johnson (Materialists)
Justification: I am predicting Olivia Coleman because The Roses was watched by a decent number of people, and she has been nominated many times before. However, Kate Hudson being nominated here would make a lot of sense too, and it would not surprise me at all.
Best Actor - Drama
- Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent)
- Michael B. Jordan (Sinners)
- Joel Edgerton (Train Dreams)
- Jeremy Allen White (Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere)
- Oscar Isaac (Frankenstein)
- Vahid Mobasseri (It Was Just an Accident)
Alternates: Dwayne Johnson (The Smashing Machine), Will Arnett (Is This Thing On?), Harry Melling (Pillion)
Justification: I had Dwayne Johnson in for a while, but lately, I don't know. I feel like his performance and the movie have not been discussed that much, and it seems like A24 is focusing a lot more on Marty Supreme, Sorry Baby, and Pillion. Because of this, I am going to predict Vahid Mobasseri over Dwayne Johnson, even if it may seem like a strange prediction just because there's extra slots for Lead Actors to get nominated overall, and I feel like IWJAA is very strong right now awards prospect-wise.
Best Actor - Musical or Comedy
- Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme)
- Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another)
- Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon)
- Jesse Plemons (Bugonia)
- George Clooney (Jay Kelly)
- Lee Byung-hun (No Other Choice)
Alternates: Daniel Craig (Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery), Channing Tatum (Roofman), Brendan Fraser (Rental Family)
Justification: Chalamet, DiCaprio, and Hawke have been doing so well this season it made sense to predict them. With Plemons, I do recognize he has missed some major precursors so far, but we are still quite early in the season, and I expect Bugonia to make Picture - Musical or Comedy, so I thought it made sense for him to be predicted here, especially since he was nominated for Kinds of Kindness last year. I feel decently confident with predicting Clooney for a similar reason: he has a good amount of noms for his performances in the past, and Jay Kelly likely will get a Picture nom. Lee Byung-hun I feel the least confident about predicting, but I am going to stick with it since I expect NOC to make Picture - Musical or Comedy.
Best Supporting Actress
- Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another)
- Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value)
- Elle Fanning (Sentimental Value)
- Amy Madigan (Weapons)
- Odessa A'zion (Marty Supreme)
- Tânia Maria (The Secret Agent)
Alternates: Ariana Grande (Wicked: For Good), Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners), Regina Hall (One Battle After Another)
Justification: I am expecting The Secret Agent to do very well at the Globes, so I decided to predict Tânia Maria as well because I felt like that would make sense if The Secret Agent overperforms at the Globes compared to expectations. Her performance has been really loved by a lot of people who loved the film. I don't predict her to make other precursors for now, but I could see her being one of this year's performances that makes the Globes and no other precursors.
I think I'll have a lot of people asking me why I'm not predicting Ariana Grande. For the record, I wanna make it clear I do think it's very possible she gets nominated, and I would not be surprised in the least if she did. I also recognize predicting Maria is risky, but I like making predictions that seem against the odds if there's reasons to predict it so I thought: why not?
Best Supporting Actor
- Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value)
- Paul Mescal (Hamnet)
- Benicio del Toro (One Battle After Another)
- Sean Penn (One Battle After Another)
- Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein)
- Adam Sandler (Jay Kelly)
Alternates: Alexander Skarsgård (Pillion), Andrew Scott (Blue Moon), Delroy Lindo (Sinners)
Justification: These six performances have been doing well with Supporting Actor so far, so I thought it made sense to predict them. That said, I would not be surprised if Alexander Skarsgård surprises us here as Pillion has been doing very well with early awards so far.
Best Screenplay
- Jafar Panahi (It Was Just an Accident)
- Paul Thomas Anderson (One Battle After Another)
- Chloé Zhao and Maggie O'Farrell (Hamnet)
- Ryan Coogler (Sinners)
- Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier (Sentimental Value)
- Ronald Bronstein and Josh Sadfie (Marty Supreme)
Alternates: Kleber Mendonça Filho (The Secret Agent), Will Tracy (Bugonia), Emily Mortimer and Noah Baumbach (Jay Kelly)
Justification: Since I expect The Secret Agent to do extremely well to the point where I'm predicting it #2 for Non-English Film, Moura to win, and Mendonça and Maria to get nominated, I highly considered swapping out Marty Supreme for The Secret Agent. I decided not to do it as I expect Marty Supreme to still be really strong and definitely get recognized for the writing, especially based on how positive the movie's reception has been so far.
Best Non-English Film
- It Was Just an Accident
- The Secret Agent
- Sentimental Value
- No Other Choice
- Sirāt
- Left-Handed Girl
Alternates: The Voice of Hind Rajab, Sound of Falling, Bélen
Justification: I had been predicting The Voice of Hind Rajab to be nominated here for a while now, and I would not be shocked if it did get nominated over Left-Handed Girl. However, I am predicting Left-Handed Girl instead for a few reasons: it has Netflix backing, it has great reviews, and it's been very doing well with early reviews so far. However, would not be shocking to me if it went either way.
Best Animated Picture
- Little Amelié or the Character of Rain
- K-Pop Demon Hunters
- ARCO
- Zootopia 2
- Elio
- In Your Dreams
Alternate: Lost in Starlight, The Bad Guys 2, Scarlet
Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement
- Sinners
- Wicked: For Good
- Superman
- Avatar: Fire and Ash
- Zootopia 2
- F1
- Weapons
- A Minecraft Movie
Alternates: Lilo and Stitch, Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, Jurassic World Rebirth
Best Score
- Ludwig Göransson (Sinners)
- Jonny Greenwood (One Battle After Another)
- Max Richter (Hamnet)
- Alexandre Desplat (Frankenstein)
- Daniel Lopatin (Marty Supreme)
- David Kangding Ray (Sirāt)
Alternates: Nicholas Britell (Jay Kelly), Daniel Blumberg (The Testament of Ann Lee), Hans Zimmer (F1)
Justification: I struggled with what to do for slots #5 and #6. I decided to go with Lopatin as I expect Marty Supreme to be a major contender throughout this season, and I am predicting Kangding Ray as well because the Globes have shown to be open to electronic music, and Sirāt's score has been getting a good amount of recognition elsewhere.
Best Original Song
- I Lied To You (Sinners)
- Golden (K-Pop Demon Hunters)
- Girl in the Bubble (Wicked: For Good)
- Clothed By The Sun (The Testament of Ann Lee)
- No Place Like Home (Wicked: For Good)
- Train Dreams (Train Dreams)
Alternates: Dream as One (Avatar: Fire and Ash), Drive (F1), Last Time I Seen The Sun (Sinners)
Justification: Was stuck on what to do with slots #5 and #6 here too. I decided to predict Train Dreams as the movie has been doing well with early awards, and No Place Like Home because it makes sense the Globes would be higher on Wicked than other precursors. However, I would not be surprised if Dream as One replaces one of them, especially since it's from Avatar.
