Anyone else testing FAQ vs How-To vs Data pages for AI search? Here’s what I’ve learned so far.

I’ve been tinkering with different page formats lately — FAQ pages, step-by-step guides, and more data-driven comparison pages — just to see which ones AI search tools pick up more easily.

The problem I had: my long blog posts rarely showed up in AI answers. They were “good SEO content”, but not great for quick machine extraction.

So I started experimenting.

I built a few FAQ pages using real questions people asked me. Then I rewrote some articles into clean How-To guides with clear steps. For more complex topics, I created data-style pages with tables and quick summaries.

Some of this actually worked. The FAQ pages started ranking for weird, natural-language queries. The How-To pages got better engagement. When I tested them in a few AI tools, the structured parts were more likely to be quoted directly.

But not everything clicked. A few FAQ pages performed terribly. And it’s still hard to tell whether AI isn’t surfacing my content because it’s not authoritative enough or because the ecosystem is just changing too fast.

What I learned:
– Short, structured answers help.
– Mixing formats (FAQ + HowTo + narrative) works better than going “all in” on one style.
– Write for humans first, AI second — the pages that feel genuinely helpful tend to perform best.

Still experimenting, but it’s been interesting to see which content formats AI actually prefers.
