Ontario Police - background check for new employers? Advice needed.
Hey LEOs! Hope all is well.
Here is my situation, hoping for some insight/knowledge:
I am about to graduate with my degree in Business Admin (unrelated to LE, unfortunately, I hope this doesn't put me at a disadvantage.) and was lucky to get a job at a "big league" accounting firm. However, LE has always been my goal, and I want to pursue it, you're not really helping the community or even people while working in accounting, I found I am indirectly making things worse in my community.
I want to apply for the September intake at OPC, I was told to apply in January-March. However, will they reach out to my new employer for references? I don't think I will know anyone well enough at the firm yet. Also, for those unaware, these firms are predatory, and the competition is cut throat. Your "peers" will do anything to throw you under the bus to eek out any advantage they can, and if they get a call from a police force, my will not progress at the firm, in fact, they will use it as grounds to lay me off.
I know past firms and my current employer would be more than willing to give me references, just not the new one, given the information above.
I obviously need to disclose that I work there, but will they conduct a background check for a job I essentially just started? Nobody would even know me there yet.
I am wondering if anyone has any insight on what my best course of action is here. Does any cop have any advice? Maybe you faced a similar dilemma? Anything helps.
Thank you all.
