Reoccurring disappearing follow request notification

I have two accounts and for months now I get in-app notifications (I have all push notifications for IG turned off) all the time that someone has requested to follow whichever account I’m not logged into. Does this happen to anyone else (I’m assuming it’s some bug or glitch) or is someone for real requesting to follow and then by the time I look they’ve canceled the request?
