How do I meet Thai people out here?

Yes, I am yet another digital nomad expat.

However, whichever country I go to, I always make a strong effort to make friends with the locals and not get stuck in an expat bubble.

Usually I can figure out how to do this on my own, but this is my first SEA country and I'm having trouble integrating. Been here almost a month, haven't made any Thai friends, just a lot of expats.

Don't get me wrong, all the Thai people I've met have been incredibly warm and welcoming, just haven't been able to hang out with any of them.

I sense an unease and shyness from most Thai people when I try to engage them in conversation or even jokes, so I don't push it cause I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable.

Any tips?
