Don't Understand Using HDR with Samsung Odyssey G7 28" 4K Monitor
I am not the most inclined when it comes to monitors. I came across a criminal Open-Box Best Buy deal and bought it on a whim when I started getting into competitive COD last year. While it was in perfect condition and does look pretty nice, I do recognize that I probably should have held out for an OLED. I believe this monitor is discontinued actually. Oh well.
That being said, I'm trying to get the most out of it while I'm stacking for the new.
I have a bit of a dilemma when it comes to the HDR settings, or lack thereof. Just a few things:
-
When I enable HDR10+ on my monitor (Basic or Advanced) with HDR also enabled on PS5, the source disconnects and stops displaying. It is not my HDMI cable or any kind of connection issue. Once I disable HDR10+, the source immediately reconnects and displays again. Why?
-
The "Game HDR" option, which I guess is HGiG, looks absolutely horrid. Everything is bright and washed, it literally hurts my eyes just being in front of it with my head turned away. Why...?
-
With HDR10+ disabled on my monitor and HDR enabled on my PS5, when I start up my game the little 'Game Mode' bar pops up and shows that HDR is on. Is it really? Aside from the HDR10+ and Game HDR options I mentioned, there are no other options to enable or calibrate it within the monitor's menu. Just doesn't seem right.
I should also mention that I successfully did run HDR10+ in the last game I played without any trouble. It actually looked pretty fantastic. With this game, for whatever reason I'm having issues. The Game HDR for the previous game also looked like shite.
I just don't quite understand a good many things. If anyone would be so kind to educate me I'd really appreciate it. If this monitor is just a piece of doodoo, don't hesitate to tell me. TIA
