Where do females go to persue music?

Bit of a strange question i know BUT when I did music in school I was one of about 3 or 4 other lads in the class of around 20 but now as an adult when im out and about and see a busker or singer in a pub, the vast majority are men

Do more men persue a musical career than women or do the women end up joining orchestras or something?
