Hat Trick taking Onslaught Stacks?!

Logging in tonight I've noticed a crazy change in my damage - Seems the closer I looked I noticed my Reverse Onslaught stacks ticking away for any and all targets hit?? Explosive for a 2 Star and Hat Trick are taking away from my 27 Onslaught Stacks on top of the first shot? Am I gaslighting myself?
