My dad financially abused us in our own home

This one but be a bit of a rude but bear with me.

My sister and I got our own apartment after escaping from my abusive mom’s house and we took in our father since he has Parkinson’s disease. He’s still able to walk and talk, just not at 100% what he used to be. His condition makes it so that he cannot work a traditional 9-5 but he is able to make money helping people troubleshoot and fix their software since he’s very experienced with computers, this is relevant.

Since it’s our first time being like independent we didn’t really know how to handle the financial aspects of like our phone bill and the WiFi bill. So we left that responsibility to our father. It’s important to note that our grandfather said he would start sending money to us eve try month to help cover a portion of the rent on my fathers accord, as well as helping cover his medication costs.

So now to the meat and potatoes of the story, my sitter and I only had one phone each, both are already paid off. My father had three phones, two tablets, and one Samsung watch. We didn’t know about the extra phones or tablets until much later, just his main phone, tablet and Samsung watch. Every month he would tell my sister and I that our part for the phone bill was $183. At the time we didnt think much about it since we were ignorant to this stuff and paid it. He agreed between my boyfriend and him that they would pay the WiFi, he said $45 was my boyfriend’s half and he would pay that every month for the WiFi since they have fancy PCs and need it more than us. There have been many times where we were struggling with rent and were almost evicted and we would ask my dad for help and he’d always say he doesn’t have anything, that grandpa didn’t send anything and we never thought to question it since our family is not well off like that. Or that he’d pay $50 but we had to pay him back. (Mind you in OUR apartment he lives rent free in and doesn’t pay any bills). He also had an EBT card linked to his ex’s house that he would give us an allowance of like $100 a month and the rest of the $$$ was his.

A few months later my dad had a stroke which puts him in the hospital for a few months. Our bills still need to get paid so we keep his phone and give him his tablet for the hospital. Our bills still need to get paid so we log into the T-mobile account on his phone since my sister and I didn’t have administrative permission to do it from our phones. Or to even see the bill. We find out he has all these extra devices and that we were only actually supposed to be paying like $32 for our line. All that extra stuff we had to pay was to cover his part of the bill for all his extra stuff. So instead of splitting the bill fairly and pay what we actually owe, he split it three ways to cover the TOTAL cost including his extra devices. Now for the WiFi, we go to pay the WiFi bill and lo and behold, the entire bill is $45, he was lying and telling my BF that his HALF is $45 when in reality he was making my BF pay the entire thing. Which really sucks cause my Bf and him had a really good almost father and son relationship. My bf was really upset about it.

At this point we’re flabbergasted, we wonder what else he’s been lying about so I had the bright idea to check his cashapp. I kid you not, every month he was receiving deposits from our grandpa every month up to $1,000. He was also receiving up to $700 in supplemental income from fixing people’s computers. We look at what he’s spending this money on. We literally only see Onlyfans, DoorDash, Amazon and his medication and him sending money to his LDR girlfriend. We check his messages to confirm why and he was literally helping her pay her rent. He was giving her up to $800 a month to pay her rent.

Once my dad got better at the hospital, like good enough to speak my sister and I confronted him and showed him all the evidence. He refused to speak. I called my grandpa and told him everything that happened and he literally laid it onto my dad calling him and ingrate and saying how he’s always done this, he’s always using the people who care about him and that’s why he’s in a situation where he has nobody except for us but that he just fucked that up too. My grandpa told us literally right in front of our dad that if he were us he would kick his ass to the curb. That’s exactly what we did, we talked with a good lawyer and case manager to get him sent to a nursing home under Medicaid. He’s been gone for like 6 months now and we have gone no contact with him since then. So yeah. That’s what happened. Honestly we would take him to court for damages but there’s honestly not much we would gain from it. His retribution will be knowing that he’ll die before he ever sees his daughters again, he’ll never see his future grandchildren.
