I literally just finished the anime and i want to spew my interpretation
This might be a bit shorter (and not as well written) than some people are used to for plot interpretations (because i've never done this before) but i need to get these words down somewhere.
I watch/read/play many psychological horror works, and its impossible to say any single work is any better than another in this genre, and Takopi just helped me reinforce that, they are all just so amazing have such raw emotion in them that its impossible for me to "rank" them.
Takopi was incredibly unique from many works due to how it was narrated. The entire story and how its portrayed from Takopis perspective made the events have a positive spin to them without whats being shown being necessarily wrong. Its more of a biased narration rather than a truly flawed one, if that makes sense.
The biggest thing i wanted to mention was how there didn't seem to have any good or bad characters, only victims. To me, it seemed like the show explored the topics of children who are affected by their parents problems (and their resulting actions) being reflected in the child's behavior, causing them to have their own problems. I dont blame Marina for bullying Shizuka. I don't blame Shizuka for being glad that Marina was killed. I don't blame Marinas mother from abusing her. None of these actions were good. None of these actions should be seen as any sort of positive, but all of it was caused by long chains of human mistakes and emotions. All of those actions eventually culminate into one giant tragedy that was this show. And i love it for that. It really does show that you dont need a single point of conflict in a story, and if anything, they can be more impactful if it doesn't.
None of the topics were touched lightly in Takopi, and they were all treated with the utmost respect and realism. Child abuse is a topic that many people glance over or simply recognise as an issue without going to deep into it, and Takopi really showed how damaging it really can be for the child. I love this show, and will carry its memories and emotions with me for as long as i live, together with all the other absolute masterpieces that i have experienced. There is more i want to say, but i have no idea how to formulate it into words.
