Case against abuser was dismissed, can i do smth?
PLEASE READ IF YOU HAVE THE TIME, I don’t know what to do. When I was 19 i was in a relationship with a man (A) that I had been friends with since i was 16. We broke up and he had laid hands on me two times where other people had seen it (pushing me to the ground, pinning me down, etc). The last time he did this to me, I had not spoke to him or allowed him in my house for 3 weeks prior because he had pushed me to the ground the last time I saw him. My roommate at the time (C, 4’ 9” tall maybe 90lbs) was dating my ex-boyfriend (T). I had T’s sister (L) over that night. T called and said he was with A and asked if they could come over, I said it would be okay and that I would just chill in my room when they got there because I didn’t want any problems. As soon as A walked into the house, very obviously high (Meth) and drunk. He immediately started being verbally aggressive towards me, Ex; he had a beer in his hand and spilled it on the floor so I stood up, grabbed a mop and towels, and started to clean it up. He started saying stuff like “yeah fucking clean it up you have nothing fucking better to do”. I finished cleaning it up and then went to my room where I could hear him continue to talk about me, calling me lazy, broke, and worthless. I stayed in my room occasionally shouting at him to stop talking about me. I didn’t want to sit there by myself so i called in C to talk to me in my room. I ended up letting her know that T had been trying to pursue me and that I figured she should know that. She understood and she went out into the dining room where she started being pressing T about the situation. She left the house to go to T’s house (3 blocks away) to talk to his mom because they were close. T left the house shortly after. I was left in the house with alone with A for a few minutes before C came back with T’s mom, walked into the house, ran up to me yelling “You fucked my boyfriend”, and then hit me in the side of the head. We began fighting, i’m 5’7” probably 180lbs at the time, so she really wasn’t able to hit me at all considering the size/strength difference. A and T’s mom started pulling us apart as soon as it started. A was pulling me by my hair to end the fight. C and T’s mom both left as soon as we were apart, leaving A and I alone in the house again. As soon as they left, A began to start physically abusing me. He was throwing me to the ground by my hair and calling me names. I went back into my room and told him to leave, he did not. He kicked my door in, ripped it off the hinges, split it in half and threw it at me. He came in, I was sitting on my bed. He walked up to me calling me a slut, a whore, and worthless. He grabbed me by my hair again and dragged me to the ground. I told him to stop it and he started to scream at me to “get the fuck up then”. At this point I am frozen out of fear so he yanks me back up to the bed by my hair and repeats this another 2-3 times. He walked out, started breaking things in other rooms and i grabbed my phone, called the cops, hung up with them after trying to quietly explain what was happing before he walked back into my room, i pressed record on my phone, placed it face down on my bedside table. I did that because you always hear about people not having “evidence” against their abuser. I don’t remember much after I started recording because I was in shock. I am unsure about the order in which parts happened after that. He punched out my bedroom window. He had me on the ground at one point, where the broken glass from the window was, strangling me. He left bruises around my neck. He was breaking absolutely everything he could in my house; my mirrors in my room, my living room TV, my dining room table chairs, the bathroom door, my deceased grandmothers table, my living room table, 2 recliners, countless holes in the walls, and so many other things (i have a list of all the stuff in my notes but it added up to be around $10,000ish before actual property damage). At one point, he tried to rip my TV off the wall in my bedroom and I told him he was acting like his abusive father and it was sad, where he proceeded to run up to me and punch me straight in my face, leaving me with a black eye. He told me that if I was so upset about him breaking my grandmothers table I should just go be with her. There are a few lapses in the videos that I have from when I would stop recording while he walked out so that I could call the police to see when they were going to be there because I thought he was going to kill me before they got there due to the strangulation… other than those few pauses this is ALL on audio recording. In the videos, you can hear me struggling to breathe while he strangled me, hear him punching me, and breaking all of my belongings. He ended up leaving bruises literally all the way down my body from my eye to my toes before the cops arrived. When they got there he was arrested. Fast forward to court, where stuff started getting a little fishy. I requested a special prosecutor for the case since A’s father was previously a county commissioner in the county that this happened. The special prosecutor requested was approved, which I now regret more than anything because she turned out to be the most unhelpful person in law enforcement that I had ever met.
This is a copy and paste of the complaint that I sent to her superiors:
On 4/17/24 Ms. Honakere asked me if I would be okay with A taking a misdemeanor battery charge in place of the felony Domestic Battery charge. I insisted that I did not think that that would appropriately reflect the events that occurred. (prosecutor) acknowledged my concern then stated, “You have to understand that you guys are both very young and have your whole lives ahead of you and this could ruin his life”. I found this to be extremely inappropriate to tell me, the victim, whose life is also very much affected by the situation.
On the same day (prosecutor) also brought to my attention that A’s attorney had said something about the videos i took during the occurrence seemed to be “staged”. She then stated that she could see how they could think that. This incident made absolutely no sense to me and made me feel as if I don’t have a strong case, lessening my hope for justice in the outcome.
(prosecutor) also made several comments regarding taking the case to trial seemingly pushing me away from doing so. She pointed out the fact that a jury is very unpredictable and will see the previous conflict from my former roommate and alcohol being involved and won’t decide in my favor. This made me feel like there was some sort of “perfect victim” profile that I did not fit well enough to have justice from a jury.
The last status conference on 9/24/24, (prosecutor) asked me if there were any dates that I would not be able to attend court between then and january. I told her that I had no prior obligations in that time period and stated the fact that January was quite a while from September, in which she told me that the reason for the long wait was because A’s attorney and her had other, more pressing matters in that time period.
These Incidents have all made me question the integrity of (prosecutor) and how she will handle this case. I don’t feel like this case is of much importance or priority to her. I would like to state that I don’t think she necessarily had the intentions of making me feel the way she did with a lot of things she said, but I still do find what she said to be very off putting and inappropriate.
Again thank you for reading through this and just get back to me when you have an idea of what to do with this information. I really do not want this to affect the case or (prosecutor) opinion on me or my character.
He started with

This case took 18 months to settle. He only got charged with 1 misdemeanor count of minor consumption and 1 count of disorderly conduct. He served 8 days in county jail, and was order to pay me $700. He has since been to jail 2 more times. First one, he got drunk and kicked out of his friends house where he left ran into multiple things with his truck including someone’s house and cars… charges started with: 35-43-1-2(a)/F6: Criminal Mischief Damage is at least $50,000. 35-42-2-2(a)/F6: Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly weapon. 9-30-5-2(a) & (b)/MA: Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person 9-21-8-52(a)(1)/MB: Reckless Driving causes property damage. 9-26-1-1.1(a)(4)/MB: Leaving the Scene of an Accident Def. crashes into an unattended car or
Now he just went to jail for domestic battery AGAIN, against his dad. which ended up being a misdemeanor battery charge.
He is 21 years old, been to jail 3 times, been in trouble with the law 13 TIMES since he was 16 years old and his dad has bailed him out because he has power with the local government every single time.
