Replacing a dimmer switch with a regular one. What should I watch out for?
Hey there!
We are planning on switching the light bulbs in our living room with Hue bulbs. Pretty much every piece of advice on the Internet recommends removing any dimmer switches on the circuit. Our living room has a dimmer switch, so we plan on changing it out.
Our living room has 11 ceiling lights (2 in the ceiling itself, 9 in a chandelier). The room has 2 regular switches and 1 dimmer switch. The dimmer switch is the style that looks like a regular switch with a tiny slider on the side. It operates the lights. The other switches operate the lights and all of the outlets in the room, so they almost never get flipped off.
I know nothing about electrical systems. I'm becoming a dad in 6 months. I want to learn some real home improvement skills. I want to learn how to change this dimmer switch safely and responsibly. Is this going to be a simple, basic light switch swap, or will there be anything to watch out for given that this is a dimmer? Or, has Hue recommendations suddenly reversed in the last few months, and they're safe for dimmer switches, now? One could hope, haha.
Thanks!
