Dog strollers

For some context: many senior dogs use dog strollers due to arthritis, joint issues, neurological conditions, or physical deformities that limit how far they can walk. A dog stroller isn’t always about spoiling a pet it’s a mobility aid that allows them to stay included, experience the outdoors, and maintain quality of life. I’ve seen posts on Reddit on this topic that dog strollers are second hand embarrassment, stupid, silly or that the owner is mental.

What’s disappointing is how quick people can be to judge based on appearance alone assuming a dog is “lazy,” “overindulged,” or that the owner is being excessive. If you’re unsure why someone is using a stroller, it’s always better to ask than to assume and make glaring eye contact. Not all disabilities are visible, whether in animals or in people.

And lastly, empathy goes both ways. Most of us will eventually need some form of assistance as we age. I hope when that time comes, we’re met with understanding rather than ridicule. My dog is 14 years old and although I shouldn’t let it impact me, it still saddens me to see certain people who are so narrow-minded and shallow. People like this is why I dislike the world at times. I still want to include my dog on walks and hikes and if that means I need to bring out the stroller I’m fine with that.
