Gift for myself to celebarete becoming a dad!

Discussion

Hey everyone!

As the title says, I’m becoming a dad for the first time this February. And I figured this is the perfect excuse to gift myself something nice and what’s better than a new watch?

A bit of background:

Previously owned:

  • Squale Tropic GMT
  • Certina DS Action 43 mm Sea Turtle Edition
  • Tissot PRX 40 Green
  • Orient Kamasu Green
  • Orient Bambino
  • Seiko SKX031
  • And plenty of Chinese watches from brands like San Martin and IXDAO.

Current collection:

  • G-Shock GA2100
  • Seiko SKX007
  • Seiko SRPE57
  • Seiko SNXS80 (mostly worn by my girlfriend)
  • Seiko 7005-8000
  • Seiko SPB185 “MM200”
  • Tag Heuer Aquaracer WAY111
  • Baltany S4095 Silver Dial

Some get more wrist time than others, but divers generally suit my lifestyle and what I normally wear.

We’re expecting a girl, but I don’t think that should really influence the watch choice. Since we’re becoming parents, the budget isn’t huge. I’m aiming for a max around 12,000 NOK (~$1,000 USD), and I also plan to get a nice gift for my partner, so I’m trying to be sensible here.

I’m leaning toward something a bit more classy. My current idea is the new Certina DS Action 38 mm Two-Tone Ceramic (kind of a “bluesy” vibe). It wouldn’t be a daily watch, but something my daughter could remember or see in old vacation photos and think, “Oh yeah, dad always wore that blue and gold watch.”

I know Certina might not be at the top of everyone’s mind, but here in Norway they’re relatively popular and have a very good reputation.

What do you guys think? Or are there other alternatives I haven’t thought of yet?
