Is it a good time to get a pet?

Hey guys, I’d really appreciate some advice on whether it’s a good idea to get a puppy right now. I recently moved cities with my family and I’m still settling in — mainly because I’m preparing for a professional licensing exam before I can start work.

My parents are supporting me financially at the moment, and they’re okay with covering pet costs too. I love dogs, and I genuinely think having a puppy around would help with emotional support and routine, and I’m committed to daily walks/training.

My hesitation is more about timing and independence. I’m an adult and I feel a bit unsure about getting a pet when I’m not yet earning my own income. I want to make sure I’m being responsible and not taking on something before I’m fully ready.

Has anyone been in a similar transition phase (studying, relocating, job prep) and managed a puppy well? Or did it become overwhelming? Would love to hear real experiences.
