π€°π My First Marathon: 3.5 Months Pregnant, Pubalgia, and a 4:28 Finish! (Definitely a PR!)
Hey everyone! I
I completed my very first marathon a month ago, and let me tell you, it was a journey!
I wanted to share my experience, especially for anyone else balancing training with early pregnancy or managing significant physical challenges on race day.
The Backstory & Training Grind I ran this marathon while I was 3.5 months pregnant with my third child! I'm also a mom to two amazing little ones (almost 4 and 2 years old), so the training was... chaotic. The Struggle: The first-trimester fatigue hit me like a truck. My training volume and duration had to be drastically cut down very quickly. I definitely did not get in the long runs I planned, simply because surviving the day with the nausea and exhaustion was the priority. The Goal: I knew a fast time wasn't realistic, but I was determined to finish and prove I could do it before my bump got too big.
Race Day: Pain Cave Activated π© The race itself was a constant battle, not just a run. KM 8: My pre-existing pubalgia (pelvic pain) flared up in a major way. From the 8km mark until the very end, I was grinding my teeth and focusing on just getting one foot in front of the other. It felt like I was running with a knife in my pelvis. Compensation: Because I was compensating for the pelvic pain, my form suffered, and a little later, my knee started acting up. I was running very unevenly just to mitigate the pubalgia.
The Finish Line & The Feelings Official Time: 4 hours and 28 minutes! The Feelings: I'm incredibly proud of myself for fighting through the intense pain (from KM 8 onward!) and crossing that finish line, especially with my little passenger.
Honestly, I am a little disappointed in the time, as I'd hoped for a sub 4. BUT... as it's my first, I did set a Personal Record (PR) π I got my medal and finished what I started.
If you're considering running a big race while pregnant or while battling early pregnancy fatigue, my advice is: Listen to your body, drop the time goal, and just focus on the finish.
