The job listing had been up for three days when I found it. Personal Assistant: high pay, flexible hours, live-in option available. The requirements were oddly specific: "seeking someone detail oriented, adaptable, and comfortable with unconventional working arrangements." That last phrase should've been my first clue, but the salary had enough zeros that I bookmarked it immediately.

I'd been searching for months. Not just for work, that was the surface excuse. What I actually needed was structure, someone who'd take control and not apologize for it. The vanilla relationships never worked. I'd end up bored, restless, picking fights just to feel something. Dating apps were full of people who wanted to "try" dominance like it was a weekend hobby, all safe words and checking in every five minutes until the whole thing felt like a therapy session.

So when I saw "unconventional working arrangements," something in my gut twisted with recognition.

The application process was strange. No company name, just a private email address. The questions went beyond the usual resume bullshit. Personality assessments that felt more like psychological profiling. "How do you handle authority?" "Describe a time you gave up control." "What are your hard limits?" That last one made me stare at my laptop screen for twenty minutes before I answered honestly. Very few.

The response came within hours. An address in the upscale part of town, an appointment time for Friday at 6 in the evening, and a single instruction: "Dress professionally but comfortably. This interview will take several hours."

Now it's Friday afternoon and I'm standing in front of my closet trying to decide what "professionally but comfortably" means when im pretty sure im not actually interviewing for a normal job. My hands won't stop shaking. I've read that email a dozen times, looking for clues about what I'm walking into.

The truth sits heavy in my chest. I'm going to this interview even though every red flag is waving. Because maybe, finally, I've found what I've been looking for. Someone who won't treat my submission like it's something fragile that needs to be handled with kid gloves.

I check the address one more time, grab my keys, and head out before I can talk myself out of it.
