Deck builder recommendations in Brisbane? Want something modern
Hey Brisbane folks — I’m looking to build a modern-style deck at my house and hoping to get some recommendations and advice from people who’ve done this recently. Here’s roughly what I’m after, and some of the questions I have…
✅ What I’m after
A deck that looks modern, clean and well-designed (not old-school slatted timber only; open to composite or high-quality hardwood)
A design that suits Brisbane’s climate — good ventilation, proper drainage, resistant to humidity and rain, and built to last.
Ideally with some extras: maybe built-in seating or bench, good railings, space for outdoor furniture / entertaining, maybe subtle lighting / ambience for evenings.
A builder who’s licensed, experienced, and trustworthy — no shortcuts, especially with structure and materials.
❓ What I’d like to ask / know from you all
Who did you use to build your deck in Brisbane? Especially people with modern-looking decks. Would love to see photos if you’ve got them.
How were they to work with? Did they communicate clearly? Give you a detailed quote (materials, labour, timeline)? Handle permits / compliance?
What materials did you go with — hardwood, treated pine, composite? And how has it held up over time (weathering / maintenance)?
Any horror stories? Problems like boards warping, water pooling, poor drainage, termite issues, or decks becoming too hot underfoot.
Rough cost and how long it took. I know every job’s different, but ballpark numbers help.
💡 What I’m looking for from this thread
Real service-provider recommendations (names/contractors who did a great job)
Realistic expectations: what worked well, what didn’t, what you’d do differently
Visual inspiration — seeing actual results helps a lot before choosing materials/design
If you’ve built a deck recently — or know someone who has — I’d love to hear about your experience. Even if it didn’t turn out perfect, hearing what to avoid is just as useful. Thanks in advance!
