Carrier switch after PhD

Computational

Hi,

I have just finished my PhD in organometallic chemistry and would really like to try something else either as a PD or in industry. I am more inclined towards computational chemistry and perhaps machine learning in chemistry. I have already gained some experience in that field during my MSc. My question is - are there any people with a similar experience here? How hard is it? And how to even approach the Profs or the companies if i dont really have a very relevant background? I feel like if I were the employee, I would rather hire a person who actually studied machine learning or something like that.

Thanks!
