For reference, in newer footage he talked about 900+ items, and this comment was a year ago. This is not even including future DLCs. BoIR:R has 719 items in total.

Obviously this doesn't necessarily mean more = better game, but given its inspiration being heavily tied to MTG, it's going to be interesting to see how over-the-top this game will be. Especially with design reminiscent of Baldur's Gate 3, which in of itself is already a very complicated game, and has been referenced by Tyler saying how it taught them that this type of game could be successful.

Also seeing the animation work, it's definitely more effort than what was put in BoIR:R, which makes sense given its development history.

The one thing that seems to be less agreed upon is the style of game. It's definitely more reminiscent of the original BoI or Edmunds flash game work. Which makes sense given most of the animation/art work was done in Flash, or at least the elements by Edmund were (a lot of backgrounds are done by another artist). I personally like it, as someone who grew up in that era, but I am interested whether it will be a hit with others.

With the success of Into the Breach, which feels very similar, as well as Baldur's Gate 3, and many cat-aesthetic games over the years (cats are just popular in general), it's almost ensured this game will be a hit, but very interested in how big this game will be. I hope the best for Edmund as a long-time follower of his work.

This game is already bigger than The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth: Repentance.
