  3 months ago my ex (F22) who asked me (M27) to quit my career, leave everything and everyone I know and move away to her home state 8 months prior decided to dump me. She kicked me out and went hardcore no contact. I have never felt more alone and helpless in my entire life. I was at rock bottom socially emotionally and financially. She said I should’ve just gone back home but I wanted to keep my job. I really see a future for myself at this company. So for a month I was homeless sleeping in my car and bathing shamefully every other day in the Harris Teeter restroom. Eventually I saved enough to get an apartment and stabilized myself from what felt like an insurmountable event. My physical necessities and financial problems were relatively simple to handle with a bit of sacrifice and discipline but mentally I was still a wreck. No matter what I was doing my mind was on her and why she would do this to me. I handled my business but I was still heartbroken. 

  In the past two months though since getting my apartment everything in my life unrelated to her has been going phenomenally. I was given an incredible promotion at work that I’d been eyeing but was worried I’d be passed over for! This was so huge for me since my expenses had increased so much over such a short period. I was also just so blessed to finally make some good friends! Initially I had really struggled to make any new friends since moving to NC but I was so lucky to be adopted into such a welcoming friend group. My social life completely changed over night and I am so thankful for that!! My mental health has improved tremendously since making my new friends!

  AND THEN!! Just walking through my apartment building I happened to strike a casual conversation with a civil engineering professor. In my field of work with engineers almost daily so we chatted for a bit and he encouraged me to apply to his university then submit an essay for a specific scholarship he was familiar with. I said what the hell. why not? I submitted what i thought was a subpar too short essay and somehow I, a 27 year old, never been to college, blue collar guy, recently dumped and homeless was one of 5 applicants that were awarded the scholarship. Like bro wtf that don’t just happen.

  Everything happens for a reason. My mother told me  the universe (or God depending in what you believe) had my ex bring me here to this new city so all this could happen, that its all part of the plan! Whatever you’re going through keep pushing! I was so far down, hated life, almost gave up. But I kept going and now I wake up every day so excited for the future. 

  

I thought my life fell apart but it was actually just falling in place!
