How much is enough?
I'm about to enter the hospital as a med-surg nurse and I'm already dreading it. I've been a nursing home nurse for 3 years so far and I'm extremely burnt out. I have an MBA, and I'm desperate to leave the field altogether. However, I know I probably have less than maybe 2 years, 3 tops before I know I can't take it anymore. The reason I pursued this job was because I tried to leave the bedside but my nursing home experience wasn't "acute" therefore it apparently wasn't enough. SNF are scams because the patients are either highly behavioral or require extensive nursing expertise to treat. It literally feels like a mini hospital, but with none of the credit. I regret starting my career in nursing homes, I wish I went straight into the hospital when I was a new grad so that I had all of the "right" experience. I am hoping once I get into the hospital system I can possibly pivot into a corporate role which uses my MBA, but if I can't do it after a year in the hospital I'm hoping to pivot outside the hospital system. I'm just curious what is generally seen as the base minimum amount of acute care experience needed to position myself into non-bedside roles generally.
