The Weight of Silence

It is not the deep darkness descending on this city But the silent apocalypse breaking loose inside me Wherever I turn the wind strikes me with your face, Whatever song I touch your hands are cold merely on loan That whole life you managed to fit into a suitcase Is now a heavy burden on the dustiest shelf of my room You never said I am leaving perhaps you couldn t Yet a farewell weighs heavier on the one who leaves, not the one who stays Time, they say Is a cure for every wound But what measure of time could erase the trembling of your voice I counted the days falling like leaves from the calendar While you like a flower blooming out of season abandoned the sun Now your name is a rusty lock upon my tongue I can neither swallow the silence nor scream it out It is as if every bird has migrated from this city And I with a broken winged hope await your return But I know only the shadow of the leaver remains never the soul While the one who stays inherits only a deep ache You are not who you were nor am I who I was We are just two separate lines two separate scripts in the same story
