I need help getting over him!! Please pour in..đź’”
I moved abroad in 2020 and quickly started dating a guy. We both were from the same culture, religion and cities from back home. We connected fast and he moved in with me. We lived together for 4.5 years supporting each other financially, mentally etc. In 2024, we got engaged and involved both families. His mother said that once he got his permanent visa in 2026, they would arrange our wedding. My family agreed. In 2025, I decided to move back to Pakistan to spend time with my parents after many years abroad. He encouraged me to go and promised he would save money, work hard and even come within 2–3 months to do the Nikkah (the Islamic marriage ceremony where both partners formally accept the marriage in front of witnesses) if I felt insecure. He reassured me many times in fact he was the one to encourage me to move to the home country in the first place. But when the time came, he didn’t come. Instead, his mother said they wanted to do all wedding events together later. My family accepted that too.
Because UK immigration rules were changing, he suggested I apply for a PhD so he could become my dependent if his visa didn’t work out. I applied, prepared and got the offer with a scholarship even though his attitude during that time was hurting me deeply.
Throughout all of this, he wasn’t treating me the same. He wasn’t saving money, he was partying, missing work, and not showing any serious effort. Still, I kept trying to support him.
Then suddenly, he called and said he wanted to end things. I was shocked. He said very hurtful things, then apologized later. But I discovered he had been talking to another girl and telling her he had feelings for her. She apologized to me because she didn’t know he was engaged. He denied it and acted like it was nothing. He asked for space and I gave it to him, even though I could feel him pulling away emotionally. When I got my PhD interview, he told me to go ahead. I still prepared, even though I was anxious and depressed. I got accepted. He had originally promised he would pay for the visa and expenses, but he had no savings. My family agreed to cover everything, so that nothing depended on him. His father was not very financially stable.
My family said they would only send me back to the UK after the Nikkah, and I told him that. He agreed to come to Pakistan, and his mother agreed too. Then his mother said she would bring only a small group, wanted the Nikkah at home, and refused the Rukhsati (a cultural tradition where after the wedding, the bride is formally sent off from her parents' home to begin living with the groom’s family) — saying she wouldn’t take me to her house. My mother was shocked. Finally, he told me he didn’t want to get married for at least 4 years, and if I couldn’t wait, we should separate. His mother called my mother and said the same thing, without any remorse. And just like that, a 5-year relationship, including 2 years of engagement, ended. I now feel heartbroken, exhausted, confused, and questioning my self-worth. He did me so wrong for absolute no reason. When we lived together(please don’t judge my Muslim girlies), i took care of him in ways you can’t imagine. I worked, cooked, cleaned, supported him financially. He supported me financially too where needed i would never deny that. But how he left me just hurts me in ways I can’t express💔💔
Please tell me how do I get over him? If someone been through similar thing and can help me? I am shattered!!!!
