Looking for somewhere to learn some programming/coding online for free

I am an absolute beginner, just trying to expand my skills/see if it is something that interests me. I found Scrimba, did a bit there, and thought it was really good, but it seems I can't progress any further without a subscription. (I am a little confused as to why their courses are advertised as free when they actually aren't). So if anyone has any recommendations for a site where I can learn that actually is free I would be very grateful :) Thanks!
