Late 80s early 90s movie like The Secret Garden

I remember this movie or made for tv movie often.. my memory of it is fuzzy but it’s been bugging me for decades

I’m 44 and I remember watching it when I was younger or around 10 (but I could have been a few years older) It was very Secret Garden-esk.. a young girl, if my memory is correct she had a brown bob cut, white dress. She lived with what I think was her aunt or could have been an uncle and the woman was his wife (aunt by marriage)

I feel like it could have been Celia Imrie or an actress who looks like her

The aunt was mean to the girl. There was big a garden but it wasn’t secret and a grounds man who befriended the girl, he was a bit older and heavy set, AfricaAmerican. The little girl had her own bedroom with a dark wooden post bed. White linens and I think she kept trinkets (perhaps given to her by the grounds man) under her bed. And I know thet happens in the 93 version of TSG but that’s one of my favorite moves and so I know this movie isn’t that and it’s not the 87 version either

That’s all I remember. It just one scene of the girl, the mean aunt yelling at her and the grounds man in the garden..

Any ideas?
