For wanting people to talk to me about issues and not just my wife

I say people because it's happened before, but right now it's specifically my wife and my roommate. So a couple weeks ago I brought up getting a Christmas tree with my wife, Amelia, and roommate, Morgan. When I did, I told them that if we get one, I really only want a real tree. Practically the moment I got it out of my mouth, Morgan said something to the effect of "I'm not takin care of it" and "i don't wanna be cleanin up after it all the time"

Which i get both of those, I've had a real tree almost every year for over 20 years. So I know they are/can be a pain to take care of and they lose some of their needles when its touched/messed with. So honestly I just dropped it. It felt like they wanted nothing to do with it and shut the conversation down.

I had also decided that if I found a small tree we could put it our bedroom then that would be enough. Even double checked with Amelia, and she said that's good with her. (Just to clarify, don't have one yet)

Fast forward several days to a week or 2 later. Amelia tells me that Morgan's kid has a couple ornaments they want to hang on a tree. Morgan and the kids mom are playin a card game in the same room when she told me. As soon as she says something about a tree, I said ok i only want a real tree. She said she knows, so i just kinda paused for a minute to see if Morgan would say anything. Amelia asked what and I told her I was waiting for any kind of response from Morgan, and she said they could've not heard (Which they could've not, but idk) It's been a couple of days since that happened. I recently told amelia that as of right now, we'll probably just get a tree for the bedroom. Cause i felt like i was shut down pretty hard. Amelia said thar she wishes we would stop going through her and talk to each other. Which I completely agree with, but it feels like she doesn't want to talk to me about some stuff, and idk how to bring something up when someone has only talked to my wife about it. I understand that Morgan talked about it with Amelia, but I don't even know what, if anything, was agreed on. Why is it my responsibility to have to go to Morgan and be like "so Amelia said something about a tree, did you change your mind?" Am I wrong to feel like Morgan should talk to me about it, or at least let me know they changed their mind?
