Hostile work environment
I been with Walmart for 3 years and I run into a lot of questionable leadership. I’ve been in a management position once before but I stepped down to a lot of stress. I was driving an hour to work and was the only one in my department so I had 0 help when it came to the department I was over. I stepped down from team lead and transferred stores I worked on overnights for a month for Digital shelf installation was told I would be sent to seasonal after the project ended but after the project I was being jerked around told I would go to sporting good, the coach never mentioned a drug test. when I found out about the drug test I asked why it was never brought up initially and the coach said I’d be fine I can just use someone elses pea, I denied because that’s against federal law. I was then being jerked around being told I can go to this department and that department until I would check in to get the job (mind you I was always a Walmart employee just a transfer from another store helping out with their project) they acted like I was a temporary associate. I spend an additional 2-3 weeks on overnights after the project because the coach was jerking me around after promising me all these positions. after finally going to the store and threatening ethics I finally got a call to go to a department. I went to work (my usual 10pm-7am) I was told that I was meant to not be there because I was starting my first day shift the next day so I was requested to work until 12am and come back for a 9am shift without being given a break from working overnights. I asked for vacation it was denied, i was completely exhausted. my vacation was ignored, I would approach my coach I’d get no response, I had my relative who was working in the store to ask about it and I got hit with the “awe you needed your relative to speak for you” despite the fact I texted him personally requesting a vacation and still ignored. he would question my legitimacy on if I were a team lead because I would ask for help regarding a department i never worked for. He would gossip with the other associates about me, he even told an associate he was going to change my schedule because an associate took an unscheduled vacation. as of recently I was brought into the office regarding a team lead position they wanted filled and asked if I wanted it or knew anyone that wanted it and I said I would think about it and would see if anyone was interested. after much consideration and talking to the managers in that department I decided that I would take another shot at being a team lead because I had a better support system, I took the team leads test again and passed. a week later my coach (who asked me to be team lead) was blocking me from becoming a team lead telling other associates “there are many factors as to why he won’t be team lead, I won’t air out any dirty laundry though) I’ve never been disciplined, talked to or even approached about my work ethic or anything at all. He is completely disrespectful towards his associates, even making jokes to me about an associate being hit by a vehicle saying “Well if nobody swapped shifts he would've never gotten hit by a car” even made an associate come into work after totaling their car, that associate was frustrated and got sent home that same day for getting into it with a customer. He even came to our department one day to talk to us about how everyone in his high school class are all dead and how he’s been dodging bullets since he was a child. I spoke to my people lead because I do not feel comfortable talking to my store manager or store lead because they are all friends (Nothing has happened) I told them I contacted ethics and received nothing from them. I just called ethics to make a formal complaint with them to see if anything is going to happen regarding the complaint so I’m waiting on a response back from them. I cant believe that a company like Walmart can allow their management to act like this and the store to just sweep it under the rug without actually addressing it. I don’t know what kind of dirty laundry this coach has against me because it has never been brought to my attention but apparently it’s okay to talk to other associates about. I am frustrated at this company but I also enjoy working for Walmart because I love the people I work with and enjoy doing my job. I just can’t believe this is how management treats their associates who bust their asses on a day to day basis. We work hard all day but in return we get our hours cut during the holiday season when we need to pay bills and buy Christmas presents. It’s sickening.
