We’re getting 6 Lotus Gimbals (LRG4-32K-HO-WH-DTW) installed in our living room’s vaulted ceiling. Already bought them, would be major headache and 35% restocking fee to return & could even be a breach of contract with electrician. So, not returning unless we’re literally about to ruin our ceiling with them.

(This is an update to a former post, with a more detailed floor plan, more detailed questions, and an added photo of my living room.)

# Placement Challenges:

* We have a 12 ft vaulted ceiling.
* The middle of the vaulted ceiling is NOT the center of the living room because the ceiling is shared by the split level foyer.
* The middle of the ceiling in the other direction is ALSO not the center of the room because the ceiling is also over a footpath.
* We have only ONE real, solid wall.
* The other walls: One wall is almost entirely a wall of windows. A whole other “wall area” has tons of openings: a wide one into the dining room, a “window’ into the kitchen, a doorway into the kitchen. The final “wall area” is all split up in a zigzag (split level stairs into foyer, with coat closet extending over stairs, so the far wall of the foyer zigzags rather than being a flat wall).
* I seriously doubt we can put a chandelier or other fixture on the middle of the ceiling beam. We can't drill through it, we'd have an exposed junction box, electrician says he'd have to run thick wire along ceiling, he wanted us to scrap the idea. SO, recessed lights.

# THE GOAL:

Gorgeous, luxurious ambient lighting that gives us good light where we need it and makes what we love even prettier. The kind where you step into the room and it lifts your heart.

# My Question:

**Wanting help with precise placement: distance from wall, beam angle, function of the specific light.**

Current thoughts (reflected in floor plan):

2 Lotuses washing the one solid wall: One will wash our future bookcase. One will wash above the 5x5 L-shape desk on that solid wall, highlighting where we will someday install floating shelves or artwork. **QUESTION:** Is this a sound plan? And if so, where to precisely place them to accomplish this (distance from wall, especially) & what instructions to give electrician on beam angle?

\--> 1 Lotus to wash the small 3’3” section of full wall, washing our gorgeous parlor palm lifted up on a console table. **QUESTION:** Is this a sound plan? How far from the wall should the light be placed? (Even if the palm dies, we will put another in its place or put a piece of artwork. The look is stunning and lifts the eyes upward.)

\--> 1 Lotus to wash the wall above the window into our kitchen??? There’s certainly a large, empty section of wall right there, but I don’t know that we will ever do anything with it…  **QUESTION:** Is this a sound plan? Or is it silly to wash an empty wall? Should the light just go straight downward and light the walkway? –Or will that create glare by the couch?

\--> That leaves 2 Lotuses, if all of the above is actually good. **Question:** What on earth do we do for them?

I especially do a LOT of reading and journaling on that sofa, so I want to avoid any harsh glare or harsh light. Currently, we do have a lamp hanging over the couch and light from the foyer pendant.
