First impression of Dahab's people as a solo male traveller
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share some reflections on my 3rd day in Dahab as a solo male traveller and hear your perspectives as well.
I’ve had mixed feelings about how easy it is to integrate and meet new people here, especially as someone who came solo for a few days.
A few personal observations:
- I’ve found Egyptians guys from mainland Egypt to be the most friendly, helpful, and open to chatting with newcomers.
- non-Egyptian residents seemed a bit more reserved, (which might be due to cultural differences in how people from places like Russia or Germany usually socialize).
- In general, people don’t make much eye contact on the street, and greetings or smiles to strangers feel less common than I expected.
- Social groups can feel a bit “cliquey,” with most people sticking to the circles they already know.
These are just my impressions, and I know everyone’s experience can be completely different.
I’d love to hear how others see it — whether you agree, disagree, or have had totally different interactions.
