Fighting TikTok content thieves - it is slow, but worth it

Informative

I create long form videos for YouTube only. Last year I searched the title of one of my videos on TikTok just out of curiosity (like one might google their name) and was shocked to see it all over the platform. I discovered entire accounts based only on my videos, they just cut them into 2-3 parts, slapped a blurred background and uploaded them. Well, I said, I'll just copyright report them and that will be it. I started reporting them, one by one, in hopes that TikTok would stop this madness. After 1.5 months my reports were processed and the channels were taken down.

Then I found an account that had 40K followers and some of the videos had 4M+ views. They exclusively uploaded my content. I started reporting their videos, like I did before. 2 months passed, no response, they continued uploading, getting millions of views.

Then I understood why they didn't get terminated. They knew how slow the copyright checks were. So every month, they deleted older videos and reuploaded them. When the reviewers reached those videos, they weren't on the platform anymore.

Not the real war began. I religiously reported new videos, every single day as they were uploaded. I made the reports extra detailed, with screenshots of YT studio and the metadata of each reported video. It took longer than usual, but today I received the long awaited emails and the channel was taken down. The "creator" just got sloppy and forgot to delete the videos uploaded in September, so the system caught up and found my reports to be valid.

The reports were made on September 25th, the account was taken down on December 9th. This is how slow the copyright checks are on TikTok.

TL;DR if your content gets reuploaded to TikTok, fight back. Report it as soon as it's out and wait. There's no other way. But don't let them win.
