My take on dhurandar ( as a flim student)

Spicy Tea ☕️

As a Karachite who grew up hearing stories about Rehman Dakait and the Lyari gang wars—and with my school being close to their area—I couldn’t resist watching the movie. As a film student, my curiosity got the better of me, so I ended up watching it (yes, from a torrent).

Is the movie fully propaganda? No—although a few scenes certainly leaned in that direction. Some moments felt like typical Bollywood( nationalism ). Despite that, the film doesn’t feel like it’s set in India at all; it’s very clearly rooted in Lyari.

Unfortunately… the film was good. It genuinely felt like three hours inside Lyari (though the accent wasn’t very accurate). The story seems to be a mix of fiction and reality.

The movie is gory with a high level of brutality. The storytelling was engaging, the action choreography was raw and intense, and Akshaye Khannae delivered a phenomenal performance. The way the director unfolds the story chapter by chapter was impressive.(Tarnatino style) The story is a bit complex, but overall the film is solid.
The dialogues were well-written too (the Atif Aslam reference was a great touch).

Finally, a Bollywood director who actually did proper research—the depiction of Lyari was surprisingly well done.

Watching it made me feel bad, though, because it’s our story, and they told it before we ever did 😭.(Stole it) PTV, please make something on our own story !!

(My favourite scene was when Rehman Dakait takes revenge on the Arshad Pappu gang.)
