Tips for your study set up (home)

Studying from home is ideal if you want to integrate learning into your normal day-to-day life. Many of our students work full-time, study and have other life commitments. In this situation being able to set up shop in your study, dining room or bedroom is so much more convenient than travelling to a library or campus building.

But let’s be honest. Studying from home can also be interrupted by distractions and can leave you feeling unmotivated on some occasions. That’s why it’s important to have a great study space. It doesn’t need to be fancy, but it can make a huge difference.

Here are some practical tips:

  • Declutter your desk/study area: Only keep what you need for your study session. Less clutter = clearer mind.
  • Good lighting: Natural light is ideal, but a bright desk lamp works too.
  • Comfortable seating: Your back will thank you after long study sessions.
  • Focus tools: Noise-cancelling headphones, focus playlists, or even a white-noise app can help.
  • Keep essentials nearby: Water, snacks, pens, notebooks, no need to get up every 10 minutes.
  • Set do not disturb on your phone: Limit external distractions.

A little setup tweak can go a long way toward staying productive and motivated. Make it personal to you, for example you could light a candle if you’re working on an evening to make it cosy.

What’s one thing in your home study setup you couldn’t live without?
