What could be the cause of my gpu overheating?
First of all, if this post doesn’t belong in this subreddit I apologize but I think for sure someone here will have some helpful info.
So last week I bought a used pc (the specs are i7-12700, 32gb DDR4 RAM, Gigabyte RTX 3060 12gb VRAM) and maybe I should’ve tested it more before buying but the seller wasn’t shady at all and I got a good price so I didn’t overthink it.
So I decided since I have a pc now I want to play Spiderman Remastered but I didn’t expect the GPU to struggle so much. As soon as I start up the game it started heating up so much, even in the starting menu temps were reaching well over 80 degrees C and it would probably go even higher if not for the limit I set in Afterburner. It goes from idling at 50-55 degrees to 80+ in a matter of seconds. It’s not a matter of airflow I tried it without the sidepanel and it’s pretty much the same I also have 2 case fans infront, 1 in the back and the gpu itself has 3 fans.
I’ve been doing some research and reinstalling the drivers didn’t help the only thing that did help was locking the fps to 60 and limiting power to 80% but it just doesn’t run the way I think it should. Before that I also experienced some crashes where I think the GPU shut down to protect from overheating. My best guess right now is that I have to replace thermal paste but I want to be sure before I take it apart as I’ve never done it before.
TLDR - GPU spiking from 50 to 85 degrees in like 3 seconds when opening a game, I’m wondering if it’s bad thermal paste.
