Spouse visa (Category A) : 4-weekly salaried pay + partial first payslip. Will this cause refusal?
Hi everyone,
I’m preparing to apply for a UK Spouse Visa under Category A (salaried employment) and I’m trying to sanity-check a timing issue with payslips.
My situation:
Employed full-time on a fixed £40,000 salary
Employer: Tesco
Start date: 1st September
Pay frequency: Every 4 weeks
First payslip (12 Sept) was partial due to starting mid-pay cycle
Since then, all payslips are full and consistent
By 1st March, I will have:
1 partial payslip (Sept)
6 full 4-weekly payslips (Oct–Feb)
Over 6 calendar months of continuous employment
I will also have matching bank statements and a proper employer letter confirming:
Start date
Fixed salary (£40k)
4-weekly pay
Permanent employment
The concern: Appendix FM says for salaried employment the Home Office uses the lowest payslip in the 6-month period to calculate income. Because my first payslip was partial, technically it’s lower than my full salary payslips.
One immigration lawyer told me this shouldn’t be an issue because I’m clearly salaried and the partial pay was just due to starting mid-cycle. However, I’ve also seen people say a partial payslip inside the 6-month window can still trigger refusal, this is what chat gpt / gemini also told me .
My question: Has anyone here:
Applied under Category A with 4-weekly pay,
Had a partial first payslip in the 6-month window,
And still been approved without waiting for the next full payslip cycle?
Or did you wait until the partial one dropped out of the 6-month window?
I’d really appreciate hearing real outcomes either way. Thanks!
