International couple tried a Spanish flamenco night
A little while ago, during our trip to Spain, I took my wife to a local traditional event (a flamenco night + a small town festival). Neither of us are great dancers, but the atmosphere was so lively that you just get pulled into it without even realizing.
The funniest part was my wife’s reaction.
She was a bit shy at first and didn’t really want to join in. But seeing everyone, from kids to older folks, dancing together, she suddenly loosened up. We were using translation earbuds too, so she could understand what people around us were saying, which made her feel even more included.
She started by watching for a bit, tapping her feet to the rhythm, smiling nervously at the other dancers. Gradually, she joined in, moving cautiously at first, then letting herself go with the music. Soon she was twirling with the kids, clapping along with the older folks, and laughing every time someone tried to teach her a new step. By the end, she was completely immersed, her shyness replaced by pure joy, and it was impossible not to be caught up in her energy.
After the event, she said something that really stuck with me:
“I realized culture isn’t something you just watch, you have to participate in it to really feel it.”
In that moment, I felt like this is what love is truly about: building these small, unique memories that belong just to the two of us. Now she even plays Spanish music while cooking and dances around the kitchen, and every time I see it, I think:
Yep, that cultural experience was absolutely worth it.
