Reading the PKJ Run All In One Go - Significantly Better?
I was obviously a huge fan of Immortal, enjoyed parts of the the Cates run (still not happy it completely dropped picking anything up from Immortal) so when the new run was announced, seemingly taking more inspiration overall from Immortal, I was excited. I read the first few issues as they came out but it didn't really hook me, so I forgot about it.
Fast forward to now, I decided to check out Infernal #1. Very much enjoyed, then decided to read the previous 30 issues to catch up. I know it doesn't seem to be TOO popular here, and I understand why now, I think?
So, I actually REALLY enjoyed the 30 issues when read all together. New lore, tying into Immortal a bit, I like Charlie as a character, fun monster-of-the-week battles. Admittedly, nowhere NEAR as much happens in these 30 issues as in the first 30 of Immortal, but that's not a bad thing, just different.
I realise though, that if I had to read this story over a couple years, months between issues, it would've possibly infuriated me. There were definitely certain issues I read where it felt like not a whole lot of things happened, but I didn't mind because it was just a chapter, and I knew I was getting a resolution in the next chapter or following one, so I didn't feel cheated - but I can totally see how someone would with a large wait.
Has anyone else read the run in one go for the first time like I did? I do think in future people will look on this much more fondly than now, but hoo boy it really is like night and day, reading it together vs month-to-month
